Features of Aluminum Tubing
Today's escalating costs and expenses have lead to more and more people using cost effective materials for construction and other purposes. One such cost effective metal is aluminum, which is found in abundance on earth.
Aluminum is a metal that is not only strong; it is also malleable, light in weight and a great conductor of both heat and electricity. All these characteristics of aluminum make it the preferred metal for use in aluminum tubing.
It is particularly designers who prefer using aluminum tubings in their designs as these tubings can be bent and designed as per the specifications of their design. There are no limitations to the creativity of the designer as they can design and create as they wish instead of designing based on the available material.
Cost effective production of aluminum tubing
It is through a cost effective extrusion process that aluminum tubing is created. The reason this process is considered to be cost effective is because not much goes to waste during its production. Moreover, the dies used here cost only a few hundred dollars, unlike other dies and casts that cost thousands of dollars.
In addition to this, unlike other dies, the dies used for making aluminum tubing is reusable. This in turn helps save in production costs with less wastage and longer shelf life.
Though there are standard dies used for creating aluminum tubing, the malleable characteristic of aluminum makes it possible to create tubings of various designs following a constant strength to weight proportion.
Aluminum tubings come in various shapes
In fact, it can be said that it is this constant strength to weight feature of aluminum tubing that makes aluminum tubing a better choice when compared to copper and steel tubings. The main disadvantages of using these tubings is that they weigh three times more than aluminum, and are very much less malleable than aluminum.
Aluminum and aluminum tubing can be shaped and bent to any design, without additional expenditure. It is because aluminum tubing works as a heat shield with its heat absorption characteristics, it is used extensively in the automotive and construction fields.
Aluminum tubings are not only cylindrical in shape, but they can also be square in shape. They also tend to differ in their outer and inner diameters, and their alloy type. This is why it is better to consider pressure rating, maximum bend radius and temperature range when choosing aluminum tubing for your individual applications.
Heat treat aluminum tubings for use in high temperatures
If the aluminum tubing is to be used in environments with high temperatures, then it is important to ensure that the tubing is heat treated. This is because though aluminum works well in low temperature, it has to be heat treated to use in high temperatures.
Another reason designer love using aluminum tubing in their work is because they can be easily colored chemically and electronically. This is because aluminum is a metal that naturally lets itself be colored.
And with it being easy to connect aluminum tubing using nuts, bolts and rivets, it is today the most preferred metal and material used in most industries and by many designers.
